The Lady of the Meadow
Winters woes are shed at last
Spring has sprung upon my mind
Joy is blooming deep inside me
Drawn like bees to Summertime
Birds are trilling in my throat
Their wings are beating in my feet
I dance like breezes through the day
And revel in the budding heat
A field of flowers draws me in
Riotous in the golden light
I resist for but a moment
Then my gayfree feet take flight
Ladybugs do daintily dine
On leaves amongst the buttercups
On honeysuckle daydreams
Happy hummingbirds do sup
I join them in their dozy meadow
Sipping nectar oh so sweet
And pass a pleasant morning singing
Matching robins tweet for tweet
Amongst the flowers; skipping, twirling,
Twining them about my head
I feel my steps begin to falter,
My tired limbs long for bed
A patch of clover is my pallet
The shade of tree my coverlet
Dappled light from leaves above
Dazzle me and play coquet
Buzzing bees and crickets chirping
Sooth me with their lullaby
While butterflies with courtly graces
Kiss my crown and flutter by
If you ever see a meadow
You might look and find me there
Sleeping deep beneath a tree
Barefoot, flowers in my hair
